Kiwis love to catch snapper in Aotearoa & Kawhia is one of the go-to destinations for keen anglers from around the country.
Here you can find some of the most delicious snappers out there; all you need is a rod, your patience, and a bit of luck. With fantastic scenery and fresh air, it’s easy to see why so many people make their way here in pursuit of snapper every year.
Trying your hand to catch these beauties is not only physically rewarding but worth it for tasting that succulent fillet!

The Trip
Looking for a great fishing experience without the hassle of handling everything yourself? Look no further than our charter – we do the hard work, so you don’t have to.
The usual day departs from Kawhia wharf at 7 am and comes back around 4 pm, so get ready to enjoy the best of what the ocean has to offer – bountiful catches of snapper, gurnard, and kahawai! And with a limit of 10 Snapper per person plus 10 other fish, reaching your daily goals will be a cinch.
We provide ice and large fish bins while onboard to make sure you fill them up; if you need something extra, like bait or rental rods and tackle, let us know. Tea and coffee are available on request for those needing an extra pick-me-up!

- Fishing Rod – Boat rod 15-24kg main line
- Tackle, 80lbs ledger rigs with 5/0 hooks or Flasher rigs, 10-ounce sinkers
- Bait preferred – Bonito or Squid
- Lunch/refreshments
- Chilly bin to take fish home in (decent size)
- Sunhat, sunglasses, sunblock
- Motion sickness tablet
