Our Charters

Inshore:

Kawhia is renowned as one of the top destinations to target Snapper; and Dove and Clansman are both top performers in this fishery.

A typical charter leaves the Kawhia wharf at 7am & returns around 5pm. We offer many options for your enjoyment and are happy to accommodate your requests.

You can fish & relax all year round while enjoying plentiful catches of Snapper, Gurnard, and Kahawai and not to forget the hard fighting Kingfish at Gannet Island.

Whilst fishing is good year round, October to January stand out as the best time to catch large school Snapper.  These Snapper arrive at the 50 meter mark to spawn, which can provide dozens of Snapper over 10 pounds every day.

From March to June large schools of pan size Snapper arrive at the south west reef situated some 12 miles west of Kawhia.  At a depth of 65 meters this reef can provide some of the fastest fishing seen, with snapper so plentiful you can have your limit within an hour of fishing.

Mokau Trench:

If one day on the water is not enough, then try a two day trip to the Mokau trench aboard the Clansman targeting Hapuka Bluenose & King Tarakihi, Dwade is one of the most experienced skippers working the trench with hundreds of fishing spots obtained from long lining this area.

An extended charter aboard the Clansman to the Mokau Trench will have you buzzing with excitement, situated some 45 miles west of Kawhia entering fishing grounds with an abundance of fish life from Snapper, King Tarakihi to Bluenose, Hapuka & Bass. Through the summer months this area is alive with Marlin, Mahi-Mahi & Tuna.

Fishing starts as soon as we cross the Kawhia bar,  trolling too and from the Trench usually resulting in some great action.

Aboard an overnight trip you are more than welcome to fish through the night (weather permitting), and night fishing has resulted in some spectacular catches.

Fishing depths range from 140 metres to over 300 metres with an average fishing depth of around 160m.

Gannet Island Kingfish:

The Clansman also specialises in targeting kingfish around Gannet a small island surrounded with reefs that rise up from 50 meters & is home to a large variety of marine life. Kingfish school over the pinnacles through summer & autumn, the best fishing months being January, February & March.  The reefs at Gannet Island are so plentiful of Kingfish that we are more than happy for each angler to take home their limit of 3 Kingfish each.  We will also include great session Snapper fishing which can be red hot at the Island.

Jigging for Kingfish is an exhilarating experience & if your new to this type of fishing, don’t panic our skipper will show you everything you need to know. If you don’t have the right gear, that’s fine we have jigging rods & other gear available for hire, just ask when making your booking.
